Youth against FGM

2009 - 20 minuten
Set grootte: 1

Bestel nr::

Three short films about the global fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

1. Burkina Faso: le sang qui coule
François (28) and Aminata (21) work for the organisation AJBFB. They educate people about subjects that are difficult to discuss, for example FGM. Talking about sex is part of what they do. And that is taboo in Burkina Faso. “It's difficult, but not impossible," says Aminata. “You just have to keep trying,” says François.
2. The Netherlands: Vertel me
Every year 16.000 girls in the Netherlands are at risk of being circumcised. Most of them have an Ethiopian, Somali or Egyptian background. Humera (23) and Annemieke (22) work for No Game and educate others about FGM. They themselves aren’t at risk, but do want to campaign against FGM.

3. Ethiopia: No turning back
Abebesh is 24 years old and works as a teacher in Hechuu, a village 20 kilometres from the capital. She’s also a leader at the Hechuu girls’ club. Setting up girls’ clubs is part of the ICEDA strategy. This organisation wants to put an end to harmful traditions such as genital mutilation. Much has changed in Hechuu in the past six years. And these changes are irreversible.
