More about Pharos

As a Knowledge Centre on Refugees, Migrants and Health, Pharos strives to:
- improve the health of refugees and newcomers (or to reduce health disadvantages)
- make the health care system more accessible to refugees and newcomers.

In this context we follow the World Health Organisation’s definition of health: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

Our approach
Pharos employs a demand-driven, multidisciplinary approach. We combine scientific knowledge with practical knowledge and with many years of experience working with and for refugees and other migrants.
Pharos has a broad network of professionals and organi-

National and International engagements
Pharos collaborates with several umbrella organisations such as the Dutch Mental Healthcare Association and the National General Practitioner’s Association. Other partnerships include NIGZ (National Institute for the Promotion of Health and Prevention of Disease), Trimbos (Netherlands Institute of Mental Health and Addiction), VWN (Dutch Refugee Council), Mikado (Migration and Intercultural Mental Healthcare Knowledge Centre), the NJi (National Youth Institute) and GGD-Nederland (National Primary Healthcare Organisation)
